“Seductive, utterly subversive and bursting at the seams with monstrous talent” Sunday Age

Hot on the heels of five sold out shows under the velvet canopy of The Famous Spiegeltent, the smash hit of festivals everywhere returns to set the sails of Sydney Opera House alight. From the house of Finucane & Smith, The Burlesque Hour…She’s Back! will transform The Studio into a luscious salubrious salon for three weeks this summer.

Renowned creators of intimate theatrical spectacles where variety, fairytale, cabaret, and burlesque meld into indelible visions of humanity, freedom, power and desire, The Burlesque Hour has set the critics raving and 30,000 audience members around the world in raptures.

The Italians gave it 10 standing ovations “Fantastico” (Il Piccolo). Edinburgh gave it 5 stars “Hottest temptation of the festival” (The Scotsman). It stormed Slovenia’s major cultural centre “Intensive and hairsplitting physicality” (Dnevnik News), and sold three times the tickets available in Rijeka “Transgressive, razor sharp and explosive” (Novi, Croatia).

Tokyo hipsters crowded the Yokohama waterfront to witness “a fantastically indecent and breath-taking night” (Wander Distance Magazine Japan), and New Zealanders cheered and gasped “gobsmacked and hungry for more” (Taranaki Daily News).

In a whirlwind of old style glamour, Australia’s hottest performers of gender, sexuality and contemporary burlesque will be unleased in a crash curve carnival of bearded ladies, Japanese serpent warriors, mad Hello Kitty devotees, and apocalyptic beasts in shredded fishnets and towering stilts.

The Burlesque Hour stars internationally acclaimed Queen of Cabaret Bizarre, Mistress of Grand Guignol Moira Finucane; Japanese butoh dancer and shock cabaret artiste Yumi Umiumare; circus and burlesque star Azaria Universe, elegant iconoclast Maude Davey with her infamous and fabled strawberryact, and luminous guest artistes.

Part circus and sideshow, showgirl and show-stopper, striptease and cartoon strip, boho and butoh, music hall, gothic spectacle and mayhem, the show is set to an electric eclectic soundtrack from hardcore industrial to kitschy Jap-pop.

In 2004, Sydney snatched up every last ticket and after giving audiences a taste in October, the girls are back with a revved up mix of wild new acts, and legendary favourites that will delight and disturb long after the carnival is over. Don’t miss out…your table awaits.
