Free tours of Sydney Opera House - Saturday 16 April 2011
Sydney Opera House is celebrating Australian Heritage Week and offering everyone the chance to tour the building for free on Saturday 16 April 2011.
The Essential Tour is an hour long interactive audio-visual experience which brings to life the dramatic story of one of the world’s busiest performing arts centres. Featuring previously unseen video footage from the House archives it is a celebration of Sydney Opera House’s life and status as a National and World Heritage listed icon.
Tour guides complement the audio-visual experience, explaining how the building came into existence against impossible odds and giving visitors an insight into the magic moments which take place at the House every day.
Sydney Opera House is one of the youngest buildings to be inscribed on the World Heritage list. In the words of the World Heritage expert committee, "Sydney Opera House stands by itself as one of the indisputable masterpieces of human creativity, not only in the 20th century but in the history of humankind."
Tours depart every fifteen minutes between 9am and 5pm. Advance bookings are essential and can be made at sydneyoperahouse.com.
