Origin Launches Sustainability Drive and Major Partnership with Sydney Opera House
Today Origin announced it will support Sydney Opera House’s energy and sustainability goals by helping to increase their GreenPower to 10 per cent from March 2011 to August 2012. This will form part of an ongoing strategy to complement the House’s energy and sustainability plan including offsetting emissions for two major Sydney Opera House events and festivals.
“Sydney Opera House is truly one of the world’s most iconic buildings. We are very pleased to be partnering with this magnificent organisation and applaud their leadership in making the House more sustainable,” said Origin’s Executive General Manager of Energy Markets, Frank Calabria.
Sydney Opera House Chief Executive, Richard Evans added, “We have a duty to integrate environmental sustainability into everything we do. Sydney Opera House is committed to reducing our environmental impact and conserving resources to ensure that the next generation has the same opportunities as ourselves.”
As well as supporting Australia’s favourite House become more sustainable, Origin is also encouraging households across Australia to become more energy efficient as part of Sustainability Drive.
With a share in up to $1million of sustainable energy technology and expertise available, Sustainability Drive is an initiative which can help people save money on their energy bills and make a difference to their impact on the environment at the same time.
Up to 80 houses across four streets in Australia will win; it’s simply a matter of telling the country why they are the most deserving entry.
With prizes including solar electricity, hot water systems and 12 months’ electricity supply including 100% green power (up to the value of $3,000 (inc GST)), all people need to do is visit www.originenergy.com.au and submit their entry.
Frank Calabria says that Sustainability Drive is an initiative that taps into the idea of neighbourhood and environmental consciousness.
“Sustainability Drive will challenge communities to look at how they can live more sustainably with closer ties to their neighbourhoods. Origin is working towards making sustainable energy, affordable energy.”
To become part of Sustainability Drive, Origin is asking Australians to describe what’s unique about their street through words, video, illustration or photo to be in the running for the total prize pool of up to $1million of sustainable energy expertise and technology.
Mia Freedman, founder of one of Australia’s most popular blogs Mamamia.com.au and mother of three, has joined the movement, calling on people to enter Sustainability Drive.
“I speak to so many families who say they’re shocked by their energy bills, indicating to me that people don’t understand how their appliances run in their homes. Whether it’s learning how to lower your energy bills, save power when you’re not at home or simply getting to know your neighbours, Sustainability Drive has lots to offer.”
With entries open from 7 March until 15 May 2011, Australians are being encouraged to get creative, get to know their neighbours and put themselves in contention to become one of the winners of Origin’s Sustainability Drive.
