‘…daringly ambitious and frequently inspired’ The Independent on Sunday
‘Complicite does theatre as flamboyantly theatrical as it can be without becoming annoying, and with a swaggering disregard for the supposed gulf between art and science.’ The Sunday Times
‘It’s sometimes hard to remember that there was a theatrical BC: a time Before Complicite... Complicite makes ideas you can see.’ The Observer
“The piece is conceived and directed by Simon McBurney who is easily, to my mind, the greatest creator of theatre in this country.” The Independent, UK
Sydney Opera House and Sydney Theatre are proud to present the exclusive Australian season of Complicite’s A Disappearing Number. The world renowned London-based theatre company will perform at Sydney Theatre, Walsh Bay from 19 November for a strictly limited season.
Recently described by the British press as “one of the most densely woven, intelligent and moving pieces of theatre of the past 20 years,” the production has received extraordinary acclaim and a string of awards including the 2008 Olivier Award for Best New Play; the Evening Standard Award 2007 for Best Play; and the Critics' Circle Theatre Award 2007 for Best New Play. Since its premiere in 2007, it has toured the world including such major festivals and venues as the Vienna Festival, Holland Festival, Piccolo Teatro Milan and London’s Barbican Centre where it will play a repeat season due to overwhelming public demand before travelling to Sydney for its only Australian season.
This theatrical highlight could not happen without the ground-breaking partnership between Sydney Opera House and Sydney Theatre and the support of the British Council.
