Christmas at the House

In what promises to be a magical experience for the whole family and one that has become a favourite on the festive calendar, Sydney Opera and Opera Australia proudly present a series of Christmas concerts in the Concert Hall from 19 to 23 December.

This year the immensely popular David Hobson and internationally renowned soprano Yvonne Kenny will be joined on stage by stars of Opera Australia along with host, Simon Burke, who returns to Australia direct from starring as Captain von Trapp in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production of The Sound of Music at the London Palladium.
Christmas at the House will also feature Australia’s rising opera stars and the Opera Australia Christmas Orchestra and Choir, and will be under the spirited leadership of Conductor Andrew Greene.

All your favourites will be included in a diverse program of much-loved Christmas songs.  From traditional carols Silent Night, O Come All Ye Faithful, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, The First Noël, White Christmas to fun-filled favourites such as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer along with seasonal classics from Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Handel.

Yvonne Kenny, one of the most distinguished sopranos of her generation, has performed in most of the world's leading opera houses and concert halls, having built an enviable international reputation as a dazzling interpreter of a wide range of repertoire, including the works of Handel, Mozart, Donizetti, Verdi, Britten and Richard Strauss. Her impressive discography includes many releases on international labels as well as best-selling albums for ABC Classics. Kenny was also on the judging panel of Operatunity Oz, where she shared her wealth of knowledge and experience with the contestants.
