World’s Best Baroque Heads Down Under
Europe Galante to perform in Sydney as part of World Tour
From Milan to New York and from Tokyo to Sydney, Europa Galante are acclaimed for their revolutionary, passionate performances of Baroque and Classical works. Their recording of Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’ sold a staggering 500,000 copies worldwide, and their concerts sell out regularly across the globe.
Now, with their first Sydney shows in ten years, Europa Galante return to show music lovers how it’s done – Baroque style! For one night only, Monday 29 September, Sydney-siders will have the chance to hear Vivaldi’s ‘Four Season’ at its very best, performed by Europa Galante in the glorious Sydney Opera House.
Gramaphone writes simply “Europa Galante are acknowledged as the world’s best.”
The New York Times describes “infectious vigor… never sacrificing pinpoint articulation or elegant phrasing”
Europa Galante earn their accolades. On stage they are energetic and joyful and their love for this music is palpable. This, combined with astounding precision, spectacular period instruments and well-honed expertise make this orchestra, simply, dynamite.
Europa Galante was formed by renowned violinist and Baroque specialist, Fabio Biondi in 1990 to showcase a new and definitive Italian presence in the interpretation of Baroque and Classical music, on original instruments. Having worked since the age of twelve in the field of Baroque performance, Biondi was able to gather around him some of the best musicians with whom he had already worked, and soon Europa Galante met with huge success.
Europa Galante have be nominated twice for Grammy Awards, and have performed some of the most prestigious venues across the world, including Royal Albert Hall, the Lincoln Centre, the Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles, La Scalla in Milan, Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Lincoln Centre, the Concetgebouw in Amsterdam, Musikverien in Vienna and Suntory Hall in Tokyo. Their repertoire represents extraordinary depth and breadth within the Italian Baroque style, from staged and concert versions of operas by Handel to the violin concerti of Mozart. Highlights in 2008 include concert performances of Mozart’s ‘Idomeneo’ in the Concertgebouw, the Gulbenkian in Lisbon and the Barbican in London with a cast featuring the world-renown tenor, Ian Bostridge.
In 2008, Europa Galante returns to Australia as part of a world tour taking in Europe (France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Holland and the UK) plus the United States (Los Angeles, Hannover, San Francisco, San Diego, Washington, New York) finishing in Asia and Australia (Auckland, Sydney, Seoul, Shanghai).
In their only Australian performance at the Sydney Opera House, Europa Galante present what they do best - a night of glorious Italian Baroque music including the world’s most favourite classical work, Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’, performed on period instruments.
