SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE IN ASSOCIATION WITH ONE ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTS THE IDAN RAICHEL PROJECT
One of the most successful world-beat ensembles in Israeli popular music history, The Idan Raichel Project will perform at Sydney Opera House on March 5, kicking off their first and long awaited Australian tour.
Symbolising beauty in diversity, The Idan Raichel Project performs an astonishingly bold and wide-ranging palette of musical influences. Drawn from ethnic diasporas throughout Israel, seven musicians artfully create layer upon layer of sounds to form an infectious style with the aim of connecting people with diverse cultures in a spectacular live show.
The power of The Idan Raichel Project’s music lies in its combination of ancient and modern. With Idan as frontman on keyboard, vocals and turntables, Middle Eastern and Arabic flavours are instilled with the reggae beats and sounds of the Caribbean. Ethiopian songs, Yemenite chants and ancient Jewish psalms with rhythmic influences from Africa are blended with modern vibes to create sonic wizardry.
Different traditions, different countries and different generations all come together offering a message of love and tolerance that resonates strongly in a world where headlines are dominated by conflict.
Idan Raichel, the architect of this unique musical Project, is a 30 year old musician, composer and producer born in Israel of Eastern European heritage. From a young age, Idan was attracted to the exotic sounds of Gypsy and Ethiopian music, which became the basis of the distinctive cross-cultural experience that is The Idan Raichel Project. The eponymous CD, released in 2006, attracted high critical acclaim and established a large and loyal international following.
With triple platinum album sales and fresh from a world tour, The Idan Raichel Project is an unparalleled concert experience not to be missed.
