Access to Sydney Opera House on New Year’s Eve
With more than 15,000 people expected to enjoy New Year’s Eve at Sydney Opera House, members of the public are reminded that access to Bennelong Point will be closed when the site reaches maximum capacity.
In recent years the site has reached capacity by 4pm so Sydney Opera House urges visitors to arrive early to secure their spot and avoid disappointment.
Macquarie Street will be closed to traffic from about 10am and the general public will be diverted to East Circular Quay. Access to Sydney Opera House will be through security bag check points at the southern end of the site.
No alcohol or glass can be brought onto Bennelong Point.
A number of ticketed events are being held inside and outside Sydney Opera House but areas of the site have been reserved for members of the public with great vantage points of the harbour, bridge and fireworks.
Ticket holders and media are to enter the site from Macquarie Street only.
Media access to Sydney Opera House on New Year’s Eve can be arranged by advance notice.
All media requests should be made no later than 12midday on December 31.
Media are advised that there is NO PARKING available at Sydney Opera House on New Year’s Eve. Wilsons Sydney Opera House Car Park will also be closed.
Traffic will be blocked before it reaches the roundabout at the bottom of Macquarie Street.
