The electrifying Tex Perkins returns as The Man in Black for two shows only
Tickets on-sale July 1!
“There is only one frontman in Australia who could have pulled off Cash's dark charisma, booming baritone and wry humour and that is Tex Perkins.” The Daily Telegraph
“Perkins nails the gravel and spit, rhythm and tone of Cash.” Sydney Morning Herald
Following a sold-out national tour, Tex Perkins is back by popular demand to celebrate the life and times of one of the most incredible singers, songwriters and entertainers to ever grace the stage.
With his driving freight-train chords, steel-eyed intensity and a voice as dark as the night, the legendary Johnny Cash revolutionised music. Tex Perkins, one of Australian rock ’n’ roll’s most electrifying front men, brings the hard-living country legend to life for two shows only on September 10 and 11.
After three sold out weeks in February, Tex will again be joined by Rachael Tidd as June Carter and a beefed-up backing band – The Tennessee Four – this time to raise the Concert Hall roof with Johnny Cash’s signature sound.
Singer. Rebel. Outlaw. Hero. No matter how you describe Cash he was one of America’s most influential musicians. Cash stood up for the downtrodden, the disenfranchised, the imprisoned and all those who had suffered a raw deal in life.
Right up until his death in 2003, he covered a range of genres including country, rockabilly, rock ’n’ roll, blues, folk and gospel. Over his long career Cash sold more than 50 million records and his music continues to sell today.
Written by Australian theatrical producer Jim McPherson (Wild World – The Cat Stevens Story) who confesses to a 40-year fascination with the wildly unpredictable star, The Man in Black is two hours of Cash’s greatest hits interwoven with the story of his rise to stardom, fight for survival and eventual redemption.
Delving into his life, love and loss, Tex and the band – Shannon Bourne, Dave Folley, Steve Hadley and Shane Reilly – perform 24 of Cash’s songs from Ring of Fire, I Walk the Line and Folsom Prison Blues to Sunday Mornin’ Coming Down, Get Rhythm and A Boy Named Su.
Whether you’re a Johnny Cash fan, a Tex Perkins fan or simply love rock ’n’ roll, this special event should not be missed!
