BIZ MARKIE JOINS YO GABBA GABBA! for VIVID LIVE AT SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE
plus special guests, Art vs Science for “Super Music Friends”
Concert Hall, Saturday 4 & Sunday 5 June, 2011
Sydney Opera House, Chugg Entertainment and Entertainment Store Group, today announced that Biz Markie will join DJ Lance and the Gabba Gang, along with special guests, Art vs Science for the live stage version of the hit American children’s television series, YO GABBA GABBA! for Stephen Pavlovic’s Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House.
Yo Gabba Gabba! created by Christian Jacobs and Scott Schultz and produced by The Magic Store and W!LDBRAIN Entertainment takes family entertainment to a whole new level. The US children’s program first appeared on Australian television screens in 2007. Originally aimed at the under-four crowd, the show has built a cult following worldwide among pre-schoolers, parents and young adults charmed by its retro-style and amazing celebrity and musical guests.
Seasoned veteran of the hip hop world, Biz Markie appears on Yo Gabba Gabba! television show, teaching a whole new generation about the art of beatboxing in his segment Biz’ Beat of the Day and he is excited to be joining the Yo Gabba Gabba LIVE 2011 Australian tour.
A popular segment from the Yo Gabba Gabba! TV show, Super Music Friends will get a local twist for Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House with Sydney-based trio, Art vs Science appearing as special guests.
Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House (May 27 – June 5) is part of Vivid Sydney (May 27 – June 13), the city’s annual festival of light, music and ideas.
Each year, Vivid LIVE asks a different artist or individual to curate a program of events in and around the world’s most iconic venue. Following Brian Eno’s debut festival in 2009, Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson brought their unforgettable downtown New York vibe to Sydney in 2010. This year local music industry legend Stephen ‘Pav’ Pavlovic, founder of the hugely successful Sydney-based record label, touring company and international brand Modular, brings fresh Australian eyes to this growing international festival.
Along with Yo Gabba Gabba!, Stephen Pavlovic’s Vivid LIVE features an astounding line up of local and international artists including The Cure, Spiritualized, Bat for Lashes, Chris Cunningham, The Avalanches, Sonny Rollins, Yo Gabba Gabba!, WU LYF, OFWGKTA and 2manydjs and more.
The legendary Biz Markie brings more than 15 years of solid hip-hop acumen and an overwhelming fan-base that stretches from New York City to Japan to Europe. At the age of 14, Marcel Hall dazzled his neighborhood under the alias of Biz Markie. First breaking onto the music scene in 1985 as a beat box for Roxanne Shante of the Juice Crew, Biz began constructing his own destiny in the mystifying world of rap and hip-hop. Now 15 years later and several years wiser, Biz continues to be universally praised by the ever-fickle and unforgiving hip-hop industry. No easy feat to accomplish, Biz has defined longevity to the highest power and has managed to still be one of the most notable artists and DJs in the industry. Born to embrace hip-hop, Biz is originally from Harlem but later moved to Long Island where he gained notoriety by his early teen years for beat boxing and rhyming. The Biz began his journey to musical anarchy, beat boxing his way into hip-hop heads hearts and delivering humorous, witty rhymes that made him loved and admired by music fans all over.
