Sydney Opera House launches 2011 KIDS AT THE HOUSE Program

Sydney Opera House invites young hearts and minds on a wild ride in the Kids at the House 2011 Program.

Throughout the year, little adventurers will splash with mermaids, swirl with flamenco dancers and sing with a chamber choir. With over 17 productions, this diverse program caters for 2 year-olds to teens, offering international and Australian story-telling from fairytales, the Dreamtime and Shakespeare through to contemporary animated favourites.

Chief Executive Richard Evans said, “Sydney Opera House believes young people need access to the creative arts as much as they need access to recreational play.

I’m sure all parents will find experiences that will spark their children’s imagination in the 2011 program.  They may even find that the program takes their own imagination in unexpected and exciting directions,” he said.

Head of Education and Performances for Young People, Bridgette Van Leuven says, “In 2011, Kids at the House offers an exciting and dynamic program of the world’s leading artists who present inspiring and challenging works for young people, their families and carers”.

In 2011, Sydney Opera House celebrates the 30th year of the popular Babies Proms series. Taking place in the intimate setting of the stunning Utzon Room and the acoustically dynamic Studio venues, Babies Proms allows children to get up close and interact with performers in a relaxed and friendly environment.  For the first time ever, two special Family Proms productions have been created to showcase the Concert Hall; one featuring music by Nick Jnr’s Lah-Lahand their big live band, and the second featuring the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

As well as nurturing the imagination, Sydney Opera House is also looking after young tummies. During school holiday periods in 2011, a dedicated Kids’ Café on the Western Boardwalk will offer healthy and hearty food and drinks, along with stunning harbour views for the whole family.
