Sydney Opera House and BBC Earth Live Events present

Planet Earth in Concert
The Blue Planet in Concert

Concert Hall, 25 – 27 October 2012

This October Sydney Opera House and BBC Earth will present the Australian premieres of two spectacular film events: Planet Earth in Concert and The Blue Planet in Concert. These shows have been performed to sell-out audiences around the world, combining orchestral music with stunning footage from the groundbreaking BBC series. Composer of the award-winning scores George Fenton will conduct The Metropolitan Orchestra with The Blue Planet in Concert narrated by Dr Chris Brown – Bondi Vet.

The Blue Planet  and  Planet Earth  remain two of the most ambitious natural history series ever filmed. Drawing in a global audience of over 500 million each, these two BBC series give the most complete picture of our planet ever documented. Planet Earth was the first natural history series to be filmed entirely in high definition giving viewers unparalleled access to Earth’s landscapes and rarely viewed creatures. The Blue Planet remains the most extensive exploration of our oceans on film, introducing audiences to the almost mythical creatures that inhabit the deep-sea and revealing the secrets of its mysterious and unexplored depths that few people will ever see.

George Fenton began writing music for theatre productions in 1974 and now works exclusively in film and television. For Planet Earth in Concert and The Blue Planet in Concert Fenton has created a theatrical cut of each series that will be presented on the big screen. “To see Planet Earth and The Blue Planet in the concert hall is a completely different experience from any other way of seeing this footage,” said Fenton. “With an 80 piece orchestra and huge screen, it becomes an immersive experience, something to share and celebrate.  For the musicians and myself these are always special nights.”

Fenton has composed for a wide variety of feature films, receiving Academy Award nominations for The Fisher King, Dangerous Liaisons and Gandhi and was double-nominated for Cry Freedom for Original Score and Original Song.

Dr Chris Brown is most recognised from the popular TV series Bondi Vet. He is a regular contributor to Woman’s Day, The Today Show and has published two veterinary handbooks, The Family Guide to Pets and Tales from a Bondi Vet.
