“White-hot, funny and sexy, these are super-human acrobats masquerading as mere mortals.” The Stage, UK
A circus that moves the heart, mind and soul
Brisbane-based performers Circa return to the Sydney Opera House Drama Theatre this January with a bold new vision of contemporary circus. In this exquisite cabaret of the senses, seven performers of unbelievable ability bend the very fabric of reality. Sexy, funny, confronting and raw, Circa is a cocktail of new circus, cabaret and acrobatics. Circa’s current touring shows span diverse contexts from works for families in traditional arts centres to European contemporary arts festivals. Their works are highly innovative genre‐bending pieces that stretch the practice and perceptions of circus. Combining seemingly impossible physical feats with a poetic sensibility, their creations move, amaze and astonish.
Circa is a company of national and international significance due to its impressive reputation for innovation, international touring, reviews, developing repertoire and local workshop programs. Performances have been rapturously received by audiences, presenters and critics around the world. Since 2006 Circa has toured to 22 countries across 5 continents. Circa has just celebrated its 100th show in Berlin at the Chameleon Theatre and have completed sold-out shows throughout Europe.
Circa also runs a Training Centre with an impressive workshop program in Brisbane at their professional studio, in schools and with partners throughout Queensland and beyond. Circa has an impressive track record of producing quality workshops for children, young people and adults in a range of community contexts.
The growth in Circa’s reputation has also been accompanied by a rapid organisational expansion. The core ingredient of Circa’s success has been quality. Under the artistic direction of Yaron Lifschitz, Circa has established itself as a centre of excellence in contemporary circus. Recent works have been called:
“…the limits to which circus can aspire” The Age
“Faster, stronger, more extravagant and dangerous” The Australian
