SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE PRESENTS
A WINDMILL THEATRE PRODUCTION IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE BORDER PROJECT
ESCAPE FROM PELIGRO ISLAND
THE STUDIO, SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE
19 – 28 APRIL 2012
“Every bit the sort of classic storytelling of adventure comics, complete with cliff-hanger scene-endings.”
The Studio at Sydney Opera House will be transformed into a hazardous mysterious island this April school holidays for Escape From Peligro Island.
Written by Finegan Kruckemeyer, winner of the prestigious Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship for 2012, Escape From Peligro Island is a uniquely interactive choose-your-own-adventure production that gives the audience the ability to direct the action on stage. Utilising a multimedia voting system, the audience is given an innovative Zig Zag Controller to steer the narrative of the play; the talented actors are challenged to respond within the range of a possible 24 different endings. Any decision could mean life and death – no two shows will be the same.
When a plane goes down somewhere over the ocean, it crash lands on a mysterious island. Stranded, and in a bid to escape, the audience are taken into a world of aliens, vampires, superheroes and the Wild West...
Windmill Theatre produces and presents an annual season of bold, live theatre for children, teens and family audiences. The Company creates a unique and distinctive product that makes true adventure and ingenuity synonymous with the Windmill name. Since its inception in 2002, Windmill Theatre has performed across Australia and the world winning several state and national awards.
Children are also invited to get involved in activities from dramatic storytelling to crazy crafts in the Creative Play area in the Western Foyer during the school holidays. Sydney Opera House’s free Creative Play programs enable active and engaged learning for children aged 4-12 through exploration, play, creativity and imagination. Trained educators and facilitators support children throughout the process, encouraging them to participate, learn and develop their own creativity. Creative Play area is open from 11 – 22 April and younger children are invited to explore while parents and older children enjoy the production.
