Sydney Opera House presents
An introduction to
The School of Life: HOW TO BE RICH WIRED & GREEN
The Studio, Sydney Opera House
Sunday 15 July 2012
With the growing secularisation of society, it is presumed that the modern individual should manage the business of living and dying by relying on sheer common sense, a good accountant, a sympathetic doctor and hearty doses of faith in science. As citizens of the future we aren’t supposed to need lectures on how to stay calm and free of anxiety. The School of Life
For the first time ever in Australia, London’s The School of Life comes to Sydney Opera House on Sunday 15 July.
The School of Life was founded in London by Alain de Botton to provide a source of good ideas for people to use in their everyday lives. Whether it is work, relationships or money, the problems we all encounter can be illuminated by ideas from philosophy, literature, psychology and the arts.
Coinciding with the publication of their new series of guides for everyday living, this first Australian outing will be an appetizer of the School of Life: four prominent and engaging speakers will offer insights to help us deal with the trials and tribulations of the modern world.
Gretel Killeen – How to communicate authentically
Well known to many through her hosting of TV's of Big Brother Australia, Gretel draws upon her life’s work as an author, film maker, comic, voice artist and journalist to share her recipe for profound authentic communication.
Anna Rose – How to make a difference to climate change
Co-founder and chair of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition and with a motto of “those who say it can’t be done should get out of the way of those already doing it”, Anna Rose all about making a difference, not just talking about it.
John Armstrong – How to worry less about money
If money makes the world go round, then John Armstrong is going to help us make sure it’s a smooth rotation. By drawing on his expertise as an author, philosopher and civilisation conceptualist, John will provide sage solutions to the perennial problems of financial insecurity.
Tom Chatfield – How to thrive in the digital age
Commentator, author and BBC columnist Tom Chatfield flies in from the UK to give us all a leg up in the sophisticated, complicated and creative digital age, exploring ways in which we can thrive in today’s technology led society.
