An undisputed highlight of Vivid LIVE 2011, epic rock band Spiritualized return to Sydney Opera House to play the Concert Hall on Sunday 2 December, performing songs from their latest album, Sweet Heart, Sweet Light.
Profound and symphonic, Sweet Heart, Sweet Light is their most critically lauded since 1997’s Ladies & Gentleman We are Floating In Space.
A live band of almost overwhelming emotive sweep, Spiritualized draw on gospel, devotional hymns and soul music to create a shimmering hypnotic sound masterminded by singer, songwriter and philosophical pulse of the band, Jason Pierce (AKA J. Spaceman). Over the course of twenty years and seven albums Spiritualized have assembled towering, hypnotic symphonies where Pierce ponders questions of life, love, mortality, beauty and his own drug use and abuse.
An inspiration and revelation to many musicians, including recent converts Florence The Machine, Arctic Monkeys and Elbow; Spiritualized continue to impress musicians, fans and critics alike.
Spiritualized have appeared on many guest-curated bills, including their last two Sydney visits; the 2009 All Tomorrow’s Parties curated by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds on Cockatoo Island and Stephen Pavlovic’s Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House (2011).
