Dead Can Dance - second show added Monday 4 February
Concert Hall, Sunday 3 & Monday 4 February 2012
‘Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard revive the lush ambience of their prime in a blend of global sounds, trip-hop beats, mysticism and the alternating charms of his darker vocals and her rapturous singing.’
USA TODAY
Due to an overwhelming response, Sydney Opera House has added a second show for seminal Australian worldbeat-electronic pioneers, Dead Can Dance on Monday 4 February, 2012.
For their first Australian shows in over 20 years, long-time fans can expect arrangements from decade's worth of musical archives including classic albums such as Into The Labyrinth and Spiritchaser. Accompanying this hugely successful 2012 world reunion tour is the band's first studio release in 16 years, Anastasis, that has recently topped the world-music charts.
Led by the silken, golden vocal nobility of band founders, Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry, Dead Can Dance are true music pioneers, producing beguilingly-beautiful, elegant music that incorporates sounds from around the globe and across the centuries.
A mix of influences from Gaelic folk to African polyrhythms, their distinct musical sound resonates deeply amongst a broad range of music-lovers that has ensured worldwide fame, notoriety and influence since forming in Melbourne in 1982.
Breathtaking live performer’s, Gerrard and Perry’s unique vocal styles and range, are awe-inspiring. Their deft arrangements, in the perfect collision of samples and beats with the mysticism invoked from ancient instruments such as the yangqin and the bodhran, result in gorgeous, moving compositions.
