Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings
4 JANUARY 2013, CONCERT HALL, SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE
'Sharon Jones is, as the saying goes, the real deal. A 5-foot-1 vocal powerhouse.'THE NEW YORK TIMES
Sydney Opera House will present New York soul-funk royalty Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings for a blistering live show in the Concert Hall on Friday 4 January as part of Summer at the House.
Hailed as 'the most contagious funk since Sly Stone' by The Independent and garnering a reputation as one of world’s most electrifying live acts, this ten-piece band ooze a warmth and spontaneity rarely found since Motown’s golden days. From the Dap-Kings' collaborations with legendary soul icon Al Green, Prince and the late Amy Winehouse, Sharon Jones' rhythmic swagger echoes the spirit of James Brown, Aretha Franklin, and Tina Turner.
Since forming over 15 years ago, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings have toured relentlessly and released five albums, including the critically acclaimed Dap-Dippin (2005), 100 Days, 100 Nights (2007) and I Learned the Hard Way (2010). Their joyous devotion to the live stage has never been stronger, transforming every show into a non-stop party.
