Sydney Opera House presents

Tegan and Sara

Thursday 25 April 2013

'Their efforts have produced the best record of their career, and quite possibly, one of the best records of the year.'

Sydney Opera House today announced Canadian indie-pop twins Tegan and Sara will make their long awaited Concert Hall debut with a career-spanning performance on Thursday 25 April, 2013.

Touring in support of their highly anticipated seventh studio album, Heartthrob which is out on February 8, Tegan and Sara Quin's ability to bridge the pop and indie worlds has seen their music cross all traditional boundaries of genre, selling over 1 million albums during their 13 year career, seeing them collaborate with superstar DJs Tiesto and David Guetta and having their work covered by The White Stripes.

Breaking through with 2004's global hit So Jealous, a release that birthed radio smash 'Walking with a Ghost', it was their fifth studio album - 2007's The Con (co-produced by Chris Walla from Death Cab For Cutie) that brought the greatest critical and commercial acclaim, with the New York Times describing it as 'one of the year's best albums'.

After a three year hiatus, this month they return with Heartthrob, an album of soaring electro-pop choruses and musical hooks, awash with synthesizers and driving beats. As noted recently by music taste-makers Pitchfork, 'Tegan and Sara sing about solitude, regret, and self-loathing alongside romance, its 10 songs feel amazing…taking their music into zones of unabashed communal euphoria and delight'.

From selling out headlining tours to performing alongside The Killers and Neil Young, and playing the world's biggest festivals Coachella and Glastonbury, Tegan and Sara have cemented their place as one of Canada's pre-eminent song-writing forces and musical exports, having won themselves an avid global following.

This performance is part of Music at the House, the contemporary music program presented by Sydney Opera House. Music at the House 2013 includes performances by Sarah Blasko, Neil Finn and Paul Kelly, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Tallest Man on Earth, Wilco, Glen Hansard and more to be announced.
