Get the hottest ticket for 2 - 5 years old in Sydney as one of the most popular and successful music programs in the 32-year-history of Sydney Opera House returns in ’06.
Babies Proms has attracted more than 300 000 youngsters and their parents, grandparents and carers since it launched in the early 1990s. This creative program introduces music to children through incredible musicality and humour. The celebrated Sydney Opera House Babies Proms Orchestra and high energy conductor George Ellis (aka Big G) consistently create amazing experiences for children and parents alike.
‘Babies Proms offer children a complete musical experience,’ says Producer of Young Audiences Noel Jordan. ‘They thoughtfully introduce different varieties and styles of music while encouraging participation and engagement.’
The first Prom off the rank this February is Flip Flops! – a shimmery, interactive musical adventure brimming with sun-filled summer music ranging from The Beach Boys and The Beatles to Debussy and Handel.
Next up, Melbourne’s award-winning vocal and percussion ensemble Coco’s Lunch returns to present A Frog in My Throat, featuring songs full of bounce. This all-girl group presented a sold-out Babies Proms season in ’05 creating an energetic world of original songs, inspiring music and fascinating vocal sounds.
In June, the heart warming and hilarious picture book by Matt Dray, Dougal the Garbage Dump Bear, is brought to life in a musical romp for toddlers. In this charming musical tale, Dougal learns that bad luck can sometimes be your best friend.
Following sell-out seasons in 04/05, Music Book 06 returns this August with a brand new program that introduces kids to the joys of live music coupled with their favourite stories illustrated on a big screen.
In October, ABC 123 presents a foot-tapping, hand-clapping and show-stopping way to learn the alphabet and count to ten. Packed with music and songs about the alphabet and counting, ranging from Three Blind Mice and 12345 (once I caught a fish alive) to the Alphabet Song and ABC by The Jackson 5, ABC 123 entices kids to get down while counting up!
And finally, in December ’06, kids can pluck, bow, hit and strum along with the orchestra as they explore the variety of fascinating string instrument sounds in Strings and Things. This engaging new musical concert introduces a dynamic range of music especially written for string instruments by composers Bach, Mozart and Rossini.
