2006 Media Releases - Events - The Kransky Sisters

Issued Sunday, 19 February 2006

‘Like the acid fuelled imagining of Hunter S Thompson at a Country Women’s Association meeting, this unstuck comic creation is bizarre and precious…. So complete and meticulous is their creation, you can almost imagine a future of Kransky conventions.’
The Age 2005

The multi-award winning, strange and endearing The Kransky Sisters hit the long and winding road carved out by the balding tyres of their trusty Morris to return to The Studio with their BRAND NEW SHOW, Heard It On The Wireless.

Regular guests on SBS’s In Siberia Tonight, these oddball, deadpan and downright hilarious sisters from Esk in rural Queensland, invite you to peer through their dusty windscreen for homespun renditions of popular songs and stories of popcorn, convoys, nightmares, and road kill. From Skyhooks and ACDC to Talking Heads and M, if you think you’ve heard it on the wireless, you’ve never heard it like this!

The Kransky Sisters feature the enigmatic talents of Annie Lee, Christine Johnston and Michele Watt, as Mourne, Eve and Arva Kransky, on their old reed keyboard, guitar, musical-saw, tuba, kitchen pot and tambourines. Their unusual musical act draws on naiveté, spinsterhood and the somewhat gothic existence that forms the world of three eccentric sisters.

Winners of the Melbourne Age Critics’ Award at Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2004, and a recent Green Room Award for Best Cabaret Ensemble and MO Award Nomination, The Kransky Sisters offer you a night of music and comic performance so tuned out, it’s tuned in! An absolute must see! This is rare, whimsical and wonderfully polished entertainment.

Heard it on the Wireless is written and created by Christine Johnston & Annie Lee, performed and arranged by Christine Johnston, Annie Lee & Michele Watt.

‘..comic creations of a disturbingly believable kind. Darkly hilarious, discomfortingly clever’
