2007 Media Releases - ‘Ready, Set, Go… Sydney!’ lands at Sydney Opera House

Sydney Opera House recently hosted 40 Inbound Tour Operators as part of the Australian Tourism Export Council / Tourism New South Wales ITO ‘mega-family’.

Participants spent a day deciphering a series of cryptic clues which led them to various Sydney tourist attractions, before answering questions relating to the tourism products each attraction offers.

The purpose of the race was to showcase the quality and variety of tourist attractions in Sydney and increase the ITO’s product knowledge. It is anticipated that the race will become an annual event.

Sydney Opera House was the final destination, where participants answered questions on the Foreign Language Tours. In 2006, Sydney Opera House became the first major tourist attraction in Sydney to offer tours in Japanese, Korean and Mandarin.

At the end of the race participants were rewarded with a cocktail reception jointly hosted by Sydney Opera House and Opera Point Events before venturing aboard the Captain Cook MV Sydney for a post-race dinner.

Speaking at the reception Sydney Opera House Tourism Development Manager Simon Spellicy commented:

“2007 heralds an exciting year for Sydney Opera House tourism and we are delighted to be working with our industry partners on fantastic events such as ‘Ready, Set, Go…Sydney’.

Having invested heavily in infrastructure and new product development we have an ambitious growth strategy for the tourism side of our business aimed at ensuring that the Sydney Opera House visitor experience remains a ‘must-do’ for international and domestic visitors alike.”
