Direct from Buenos Aires legendary musicians Camerata Porteña, under the direction of Marcelo Rodriguez Scilla will perform one-night only in the Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House, on Monday 6 August. In this Australian premiere performance Camerata Porteña will pay homage to the most important and revered figure in the Tango’s history – composer Astor Piazzolla, and audience members will be invited to join the celebration and Tango with them.
TANGO - Argentina's gift to the world, the very word evoking sensuality and intrigue, lust and provocation, raw energy and knife-edge precision. This most intoxicating of dances emerged in Buenos Aires at the turn of the 20th century.
For nearly two hundred years Tango has been ‘the’ dance when it comes to expressing love. The passionate music of Piazzolla and the fiery dance of the Tango have undergone a renaissance in recent years, a testament to its ability to capture the imagination of lovers of music and dance around the world – erotic, seductive, and irresistible!
Celebrating Piazzolla’s exciting, evocative, sensual music Camerata Porteña will delight music and Tango lovers alike. Formed in 1986 by its Director Marcelo Rodriguez Scilla, Camerata Porteña came together to perform purely Tango music. The musicians of Camerata Porteña are amongst the finest musicians in Argentina, and are soloist professors who are also members of the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional of Argentina and the Orquesta Estable del Teatro Colon of Buenos Aires.
Camerata Porteña have toured widely through Latin America and Europe to great acclaim, and their CD releases have garnered many awards, their most recent CD El Angel Vive a compilation of Piazzolla’s works has received the highest commendation from the Government of Argentina.
