PRESENTED IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL
KIKI & HERB: THE YEAR OF MAGICAL DRINKING TOUR
“Devastating depth and substance, a performance that becomes irresistibly full bodied art.” New York Times
“Deranged. Hysterical. Confrontational. Unmissable.” Time Out
Justin Bond and Kenny Mellman have been delighting audiences around the globe for almost 20 years as Kiki & Herb. Following last year’s sell-out run at The Studio and a smash season on Broadway, New York's legendary cabaret terrorists return with a brand new show – catch them before they die…
Kiki & Herb: The Year of Magical Drinking Tour is a dark-humoured cabaret show featuring Kiki, the washed up, boozed up chanteuse whose middle age passed her by some time ago; and Herb, her piano-battering, lifelong accompanist who provides support both musically and emotionally.
Herb’s musical arrangements are less than traditional and with Kiki’s voice reminiscent of Tom Waits and Ethel Merman (with a little Judy Garland for good measure), they perform gutsy renditions of music made famous by such artists as Grammy Award-winning Gnarls Barkley, soul and R&B singer Amy Winehouse, USA punk band The Gossip and UK musician Jarvis Cocker.
Interspersed with the songs are Kiki’s funny and often tragic monologues about her life, her career and anything else that happens to be on her mind. Show business has destroyed her but she cannot, ladies and gentlemen, live without it! The Studio audiences will again be amazed and charmed by the lunacy of this eccentric duo.
In 2006 Kiki & Herb made their Broadway debut, earning them a nomination at the 2007 Tony Awards for Best Theatrical Event. They have performed to sold-out venues from New York’s legendary Carnegie Hall to London’s Soho and Bloomsbury Theatres. They also toured the UK with the Scissor Sisters in 2004 performing at The Royal Albert Hall and Brixton Academy.
Kiki & Herb have released two CDs, Do You Hear What We Hear, featuring Deborah Harry, Molly Ringwald and Rufus Wainwright; and Kiki and Herb Will Die For You, a live recording of their Carnegie Hall show.
Kiki & Herb: The Year of Magical Drinking Tour will make its world premiere at the Melbourne International Arts Festival on October 22 before transferring to The Studio for 12 shows only. Book early as this will sell out fast.
