Sydney Opera House receives numerous requests to provide assistance for a range of performing arts events (charity concerts, young artist competitions, public auditions) and non-performing arts events (catered functions, Forecourt rallies, etc) at Sydney Opera House. Many of them are for worthy causes, but Sydney Opera House is unable to provide support for all of them. Sydney Opera House is accountable for the exercise of due diligence in the allocation and management of its resources and does not provide support to organisations simply because of their charitable status or because their aim is to raise funds for a worthy cause.
Criteria for support
Sydney Opera House may agree to provide assistance if the event fulfils one or more of the following purposes:
- It contributes to the training and development of young artists both within NSW and nationally
- It contributes to art-form development as an investment in the future of the performing arts in Australia
- It supports the arts and Australian culture at a community level and more broadly in regional and rural NSW
- Support for government initiatives, including indigenous, youth, education and multicultural programs
- It provides an appropriate opportunity for the 50K to demonstrate leadership as a good corporate citizen
- It is consistent with the achievement of Sydney Opera House corporate goals
Having taken into consideration the nature and purpose of the event, consent to provide support is also contingent upon its not compromising:
- Sydney Opera House commitment to artistic excellence
- Sydney Opera House safety standards and practices
- Sydney Opera House commitment to provide security of venue access to its performing arts presenters under the terms of their Hiring Agreements
- the achievement of Sydney Opera House financial targets
- Sydney Opera House responsible resource management standards and policies
- Sydney Opera House responsible site management standards and policies
- Sydney Opera House Sponsorship policy
It is important that assistance provided to community organisations always supports the positioning of Sydney Opera House in the broader community and particularly the arts environment. This requires balancing the desire to generate goodwill and promote Sydney Opera House’s image as a good corporate citizen, without devaluing Sydney Opera House brand or misrepresenting Sydney Opera House as an organisation with an excess of resources.
