In general it is not the policy of Sydney Opera House to grant access to the site for the taking up of financial collections, however worthy the cause. Sydney Opera House is committed to ensuring that patrons and visitors to the site are free to enjoy their Sydney Opera House experience without obstruction.
Permission may be given for the collection of donations on Sydney Opera House site in exceptional circumstances under the following conditions:
- The collection is restricted to a particular event at Sydney Opera House and its purpose is integral to that event (e.g., part of a fundraising concert)
- The collection is to raise funds for a performing arts related charitable organisation, such as the Actors’ Benevolent Fund
- The organisation taking up the collection must be a genuine non-profit organisation or community/arts group
- The organisation making the request must provide its own authorised collecting agents and ensure that they carry appropriate identification whilst on Sydney Opera House site
- Consideration of a request to take up a collection on Sydney Opera House site should not be approved if there is a perceived risk of a negative impact on the operations of Sydney Opera House’s presenters or patrons
- Collections may only be approved within a venue or its adjacent foyers with the consent of the presenter hiring the venue
- Any collection agents authorised to operate on Sydney Opera House site must at all times obey the lawful instructions of Sydney Opera House security staff and management with regard to the approved collection areas and the times during which collecting may take place
