BLUE HAWK AND SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE PRESENT
ONE NIGHT WITH DIONNE WARWICK AND HER BAND
“Her rich, woody voice has deepened with age, lending a splendidly full-bodied finish to everything from Anyone Who Had a Heart to That’s What Friends Are For and Promises, Promises.” (The Guardian, 2006)
From the 1962 release of her first single, Don’t Make Me Over, Dionne Warwick has gone on to dominate the pop, soul and R&B charts for decades. With five Grammy Awards, Dionne Warwick’s voice and artistry has stood the test of time and developed along with the musical world. A series of collaborations in the 1980s including Heartbreaker (with the Bee Gees), We are the World (with Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie, Tina Turner and many others) and That’s What Friends Are For (with Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight and many others) earned her an entirely new and devoted audience.
In 2006, Dionne Warwick released her latest album, My Friends and Me, which featured collaborations with a new generation of performers including Gloria Estefan, Cyndi Lauper, Reba McEntire, Lisa Tucker and Wynonna Judd. Now, in 2007, she has not even started to slow down as she embarks on a world tour. Dionne Warwick is only second to Aretha Franklin as the number one female vocalist of the rock era with an astonishing 56 chart hits.
For one night only and with her own band, Dionne Warwick will sing the songs that provided an unforgettable soundtrack to the 60s, 70s and 80s and made her the first black female pop and soul singer to achieve international stardom.
“Let me tell you about the Dionne Warwick I know. She is far and away the finest interpreter of the songs Burt Bacharach and I have written over the years. In addition, she has sung the songs of many others – always brilliantly. When all is said and done, she is one of the great singers of our time.” Hal David
