REPLY TO JØRN UTZON FROM THE PREMIER OF NSW
Mr Jørn Utzon AC
17 October 2003
Dear Mr Utzon
It was wonderful to read your kind letter of 2 October, which Jan delivered to me this morning. I have taken the liberty of making its contents public, thus sharing your feelings with the people of Sydney, indeed with all Australians.
I understand the happiness you must feel on being reunited with your great project. I share your happiness. I believe that is something all Australians will understand and can share together.
No one else could have finished the work on the Opera House. No one else would presume to do so. I rejoice that its architect is again engaged on the building, bringing all the wisdom and experience of his mature years, all the resources of his mind and imagination and his undiminished enthusiasm to complete the task he began.
This is a proud time for us all, reuniting the architect of the Opera House with the Government of New South Wales in a fitting and honourable resolution of all that has gone before. I wish you well as you undertake this great assignment for Sydney and the people of Australia.
Yours sincerely
Bob Carr
Premier
Minister for the Arts
Minister for Citizenship
