Overview
Message Sticks Festival 2008
4 - 13 July
Message Sticks celebrates Indigenous culture through contemporary film, performance, music and visual arts. Sydney Opera House is proud to be working with Indigenous artists in the spirit of Reconciliation.
The Message Sticks Film Festival is a free weekend of fantastic premieres and works by new directors. Films include River of No Return starring Frances Djulibing from Ten Canoes. Frances, a 42-year-old mother-of-three from a remote community, is keen to pursue her dream of becoming the indigenous Marilyn Monroe.
Message Sticks Live will feature performances by the celebrated musician Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu (ex-Yothu Yindi) and the Wangatunga women’s choir in The Studio’s biggest musical project ever - Ngarukuruwala.
Come along and enjoy the festivities as we open the window to Black Australia.
