Overview
MARDI GRAS AT SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE
Sydney Opera House celebrates the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival 2009 with its biggest, outest, loudest and proudest season ever, featuring five fabulicious shows presented in the comfy surrounds of The Studio.
The season opens with international superstar of stage and screen
ALAN CUMMING
, in his cheeky and charming cabaret show "
I Bought A Blue Car Today
". The Tony Award-winning actor is joined by Musical Director LANCE HORNE and band, as they tackle the "queer songbook" - a diverse range of songs mixed with camp chat and salacious storytelling.
Alan Cumming also features as a special guest in our
MARDI GRAS LATE NIGHT LOUNGE
, debuting on Saturday February 21st. It's hosted by Kiki & Herb's JUSTIN BOND and also features LANCE HORNE tickling the ivories. Regular guests include everyone's favourite feline femme fatale Meow Meow, along with;
Sat 21 Feb:
Mark Trevorrow (AKA Bob Downe)
Trevor Ashley
Sat 28 Feb:
Julie Atlas Muz
Zoe Keating
Joyce Maynge
AMANDA PALMER
kicks off her season on the 25th, but sorry folks, she's already sold out!
Then Justin Bond and Lance Horne return with
JUSTIN BOND IS CLOSE TO YOU
- a Carpenters song cycle that pushes all your entertainment buttons - mixing fun, laughter and incurable romanticism with the tragic trajectory of a pop princess who flew too close to fame's sun.
We've saved the most shocking until last...
A MIDSUMMER'S WET DREAM
sees the return of cult Canadian carnal crooners THE WET SPOTS, with their trademerk mix of dirty ditties sung ever-so-sweetly - not for the easily offended!!!
All performances see The Studio in intimate cabaret mode, with mostly table seating and a bar in the venue.
