Policies - Receiving Gifts and Benefits

It is important that Sydney Opera House staff not only work and act with integrity and impartiality but also are seen to do so. This is consistent with the SOH core shared values.

As a general principle staff should not accept gifts, benefits or hospitality. Token gifts occasionally received as thank you gifts or in the course of the job are usually acceptable, particularly as the House supports excellence in customer service and celebrates positive feedback and recognition for work or services done well.

In some areas of SOH business the exchange of gifts, benefits, and hospitality is an integral part of the business. It is important that all exchanges are conducted with openness and transparency and recorded properly when appropriate.

Any instances of attempted bribery or corrupt practice must be reported to the relevant Manager and or Director immediately.  Corrupt practices and seeking or receiving bribes are punishable under the Crimes Act.
