Season Overview

Welcome to Voices in Motion – Sydney Philharmonia Choirs' 2013 Season. This year will see our Symphony Chorus, Chamber Singers, Festival Chorus and VOX cover the full spectrum of choral styles from musical theatre to contemporary classical, as well as more traditional fare.

Eric Whitacre, one of the most popular composers of our time, will join us in March to conduct our Symphony Chorus and youth choir, VOX in a program of his own music. In May our ChorusOz program returns with Brahms' A German Requiem' – don't miss this tour de force of 800 singers, professional soloists and orchestra under the baton of Music Director Brett Weymark.

2013 also marks the bicentenaries of Verdi and Wagner, and the centenary of Britten. Not wanting to miss out on all the fun, we are celebrating with our June program – Opera's Triple Threat – which includes highlights from Otello, Peter Grimes and Tannhäuser. For those of you who prefer their stage extravaganzas to have more of a musical theatre flavour, come along to our arrangements of classic Cole Porter tunes in September, performed by our 350-voice Festival Chorus.

And finally for all those whose Christmas celebrations are not the same without catching a performance of Handel's Messiah, we are bringing this back in 2013 with the work presented in association with The Children's Hospital at Westmead.

So come along and witness the power of choral music first-hand, as we look forward to a fantastic 2013 Season.

Company Overview

Sydney Philharmonia Choirs has, from its beginnings in 1920, become one of the most prominent choral organisations in Australia. We present choral music at the highest standard of artistic excellence, both with key artistic partners such as Sydney Symphony and Sydney Festival, as well as our own concert seasons.

We ensure the future of choral music through training and educating singers, musicians and conductors, and by commissioning new works and devising innovative ways of presenting our repertoire. Perhaps most importantly, we create opportunities for anyone with an interest to participate in choral singing.
