TIM WOODS & PHIL BATHOLS PRESENT
JOSE CARRERAS IN CONCERT
Hear one of the true stars of the international stage, José Carreras, when he appears live at the Sydney Opera House on 4 & 6 January, 2008. The great tenor will sing operatic and popular favourites, with special guest Emma Matthews and a full symphony orchestra, conducted by Maestro David Gimenez.
“Every time I step on stage, I feel great joy” - José Carreras
José Carreras is a hero of the music world. As one of the finest tenors of this generation and an outstanding musician, he has appeared with the world’s greatest conductors and orchestras, and venues such as The Scala, Milan, the New York Met, the Royal Opera House, and the Vienna Staatsoper. As a performer, he has created definitive interpretations of the great romantic roles of
Verdi, Puccini and Donizetti, not to mention becoming a household name as one of the Three Tenors. Additionally, he presides over the José Carreras Leukemia Foundation, raising funds to combat the devastating disease that so nearly took his life.
Joining José Carreras on stage will be soprano Emma Matthews, whose own meteoric rise to fame has firmly established her as one of Australia’s most outstanding singers. Her latest triumph is in Opera Australia's 2007 production of The Tales of Hoffmann, where she plays all four heroines in a virtuosic and dramatic tour de force.
“One of the world’s greatest operatic masters” - New York Times
Hear Carreras conjure up a new world for every song as he sings great moments from opera, musical theatre hits and his own selection of Spanish and Italian love songs, which will melt your heart. The repertoire for the evening will be a program of showstoppers from across the board -pop, opera, Broadway, from arias to simple love songs – all impossible to resist.
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see an artist who has dominated the international opera and concert stage for thirty years.
