Just for Laughs, will return to Sydney Opera House in October for its second Australian season. The program, curated for local audiences, will feature a stellar line up of international and Australian comedians, bringing more artists to more venues across the House in a series of star-studded galas, solo shows and comedy club nights.

Some of the biggest names in comedy will land in Sydney for the second incarnation of this annual festival. With Noel Fielding (aka co-creator of The Mighty Boosh and the ABC’s trippy Luxury Comedy), Adam Hills and Drew Carey (The Drew Carey Show, Whose Line Is It Anyway?) hosting international comedy galas, and Flight of the Conchords’ Rhys Darby hosting an evening of hilarity with performers from New Zealand, the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall will be the place to see some of the best comedic talent from around the world.

There will be unmissable solo shows from superstar comedian Gabriel Iglesias (Magic Mike, Comedy Central’s Hot and Fluffy) and Bill Burr (The Late Show with David Letterman, AMC’s Breaking Bad), British comedian Dave Gorman (last at Sydney Opera House with Dave Gorman's Googewhack Adventure in 2003), Irish sensation Ed Byrne (Have I Got News For You, Never Mind the Buzzcocks) and Helpmann-nominated local boy Sam Simmons.  The Studio will be transformed into a comedy club, hosting Amp’d – a night of musical comedy - and The Nasty Show hosted by Jeff Ross (Comedy Central Roasts).

The very first Just for Laughs at Sydney Opera House, co-presented by Adrian Bohm Presents, Sydney Opera House and Just for Laughs took place in 2011 with 45% of the audience being new ticket buyers to Sydney Opera House performances. Headlined by John Cleese, the festival was a box office success and comes back for 2012 bigger and bolder than before.

Sydney Opera House CEO Louise Herron said, ‘I am delighted to welcome Just for Laughs back to Sydney Opera House this year for its second season. We are proud to include in our diverse programming,  highly respected national and international comedians that will attract new audiences to Sydney Opera House and offer new experiences for our regular patrons.  I’m looking forward to hearing the laughter emanating from our venues, thanks to our partnership with Just for Laughs and Australia’s greatest comedy promoter, Adrian Bohm.’

Gilbert Rozon, CEO and Founder of Just for Laughs said, ‘Just for Laughs is back for a second year at the Sydney Opera House - bigger, better and funnier than before. This festival unites three brands that are leaders in their field – Sydney Opera House, Just for Laughs and Adrian Bohm Presents – and we can’t wait to get more Australians laughing in 2012!’

Just for Laughs recently celebrated 30 years of staging one of the world’s largest and most prestigious comedy festival in Montreal. The Montreal festival, which takes place annually in July, spans a month and takes over the whole city with an international roster of high profile and emerging comedians and street performers all playing a part. There are now Just for Laughs festivals in Chicago, Paris, Toronto and Sydney.

Adrian Bohm Presents has been promoting international comedy, music tours and theatre productions in Australia and New Zealand for over twenty-five years, bringing some of the world’s best known musicians, singers, stage and screen actors and stand-up comedians to the Southern Hemisphere. Over recent years, Bohm has been responsible for presenting Eddie Izzard, Chelsea Handler, Lee Evans, Jack Dee, Jo Brand, Bill Bailey, Rowan Atkinson, Steven Wright, Rob Schneider, Russell Brand, Julian Clary, Lily Tomlin, Sandra Bernhard and many more international comedians to Australian audiences.
