INSPIRING IMAGINATION IN CHILDREN
Since 1977, education and youth engagement have been priorities for Sydney Opera House and a significant part of what we do. Our Education and Young People’s program offers access, active engagement and quality contemporary performing arts experiences for all school-age students, linked to the curriculum.
We are committed to providing access to best practice performing arts experiences for children of all ages, learning styles and circumstance there are a number of areas you can support to help us make a difference to future generations:
- ARTS ASSIST
Our Arts Assist program provides subsidised tickets and travel for students from New South Wales priority funded schools, enabling them attend a performance from our acclaimed, curriculum linked House:Ed program, providing them with an opportunity they otherwise may never have.
Of the 145,000 disadvantaged school children in NSW, and at a cost of $26 per child, we are currently only able to offer 1 in 58 children an onsite Sydney Opera House experience. Our goal is to reach at least 1 in 10.
- CREATIVE PLAY
Every school holidays our FREE Creative Play program continues to provide children of all levels with a well-rounded educational experience that extends beyond the stage, through active and engaged learning experiences that incorporate exploration, play, creativity and imagination.
This program is directly subsidised by Sydney Opera House at a cost of approximately $10 per child. MORE

- WORLD ORCHESTRAS EDUCATION PROGRAM
The World Orchestras Education Program provides gifted music students with once-in-a-lifetime access to the world's leading music.
Established in 2010, the Sydney Opera House World Orchestras Education Program enables gifted music students to gain access to the world’s leading musicians. In its first two years, almost 200 young orchestral players have had the chance to perform alongside members of both the Berlin Philharmoniker (2010) and the Vienna Philharmonic (2011), also participating in over two weeks’ of intensive workshops and master classes.
The World Orchestras Program fulfils our commitment to celebrate creative genius and democratise creativity, giving Australian music lovers the opportunity to hear the very best orchestras from around the world here at the House. The Education Program then takes this one step further, ensuring that talented young players are inspired to become the great musicians of the future.
