Sydney, Australia:  Sydney Opera House expresses its deepest condolences on the sudden death of Richard Hickox (CBE), Music Director of Opera Australia, to the family of Richard Hickox, the Opera Australia community of artists, administrators and supporters and to the broader performing arts community across the world.

Richard Evans, Chief Executive Sydney Opera House, said: “Richard was a musical leader across the world and his contribution to opera, symphonic music and the performing arts in his homeland of England, across Europe, and most recently in Australia was enormously significant. On behalf of Sydney Opera House I express our great sadness at his untimely death. Opera
Australia is a critical part of the creative fabric of Sydney Opera House and broader Australian life. Richard’s passing is deeply felt.”

Hickox passed away on November 23rd 2008. In addition to his role at Opera Australia, Hickox was Music Director for City of London Sinfonia; Associate Guest Conductor of London Symphony Orchestra and Conductor Emeritus, BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
