Today, during her daily talk show broadcast from Chicago, Oprah Winfrey let her worldwide fan base know that her show is coming to the Sydney Opera House.

On 14 December, Oprah Winfrey, who Forbes calls the world’s most powerful entertainer, will tape her show from the Sydney Opera House Forecourt. This will be the first time “The Oprah Winfrey Show” including the entire audience, has travelled outside of North America.

Sydney Opera House CEO, Richard Evans, today said, ‘I am thrilled Ms Winfrey has chosen the symbol of our nation as the backdrop to this unique broadcast. Ever since Paul Robeson stood on the steps and sang to construction workers in 1960, Bennelong Point has played host to many of the world’s greatest performers and leaders.

Sydney Opera House is a place of imagination and transformation this December we transform from Opera to Oprah House.’
Richard Evans went on to say, ‘I must congratulate our staff, Tourism Australia, Qantas, Tourism New South Wales, Tourism Queensland, Tourism Victoria, and Network 10 that have brought this unique event to life.’

Oprah Winfrey will be travelling with her loyal audience, all of whom will participate in a variety of unique Australian experiences.  The House is one of the busiest performing arts centres in the world, with more than 2,600 performance and events annually and an estimated 7.4 million people visiting the precinct each year. Currently over 320,000 people each year take a guided tour of the House’s seven venues and its restaurants, bars and retail outlets on Bennelong Point.
