Lloyd Martin Travelling Scholarship for Emerging Arts Leaders

The Lloyd Martin Travelling Scholarship for Emerging Arts Leaders is a new Opera House initiative to help the next generation of arts managers tackle the increasingly complex landscape facing cultural institutions in the 21st century.  The AUD$20,000 annual Scholarship funds an overseas residency or study trip for a person in the early stages of their career, and honours the memory of Lloyd Martin, the Opera House’s longest-serving general manager (1978-97). Additional background information about the Scholarship can be found here (PDF).

2014 Lloyd Martin Travelling Scholarship for Emerging Arts Leaders

In 2014, the Lloyd Martin Travelling Scholarship for Emerging Arts Leaders was awarded to Carl Nilsson-Polias, at Sydney Theatre Company.  Information about Carl and the 2014 Scholarship can be found here (PDF).

Alexandra and Lloyd Martin Family Foundation

The Opera House acknowledges the generous support of the Alexandra and Lloyd Martin Family Foundation in establishing the Scholarship.

2015 Applications

Applications for future Scholarships will be posted on this page, and will circulated by email to Opera House staff and resident company staff in the first half of 2015.

As a guide only, the 2014 application form can be found here (PDF).

Eligibility

Applications will be accepted from current staff members of the Opera House, or current staff members of any of its seven flagship resident companies: the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Bell Shakespeare, Opera Australia, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Theatre Company, or The Australian Ballet. Please note that the Scholarship focuses on people working in areas that are increasingly critical to the viability and success of arts companies and cultural institutions, such as digital technology, finance, commercial enterprises, philanthropy, sponsorship, education, marketing and communications. Applications from other areas will not, however, be excluded.
