ACE - ARTS CAMP FOR EDUCATORS

Why should school camps just be for students? This year we have collaborated with the best theatre and arts organisations to offer a premium professional development program that could complete your accreditation hours in one go... an Arts Camp for Educators (ACE)!

You’ll have the chance to join preeminent arts providers for two action-packed days filled with a wide range of accredited professional development opportunities, and by night you’ll have tickets to some of the hottest shows in town. Now we think that’s pretty ACE!

Hosted at Sydney Opera House, you’ll be spoilt for choice with sessions provided by Bell Shakespeare Company, Sydney Theatre Company, atyp, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Dance Company, and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Sydney Opera House theatre technicians will also run sessions to help you brush up those technical skills for your school production needs.

Accredited sessions for both Primary and Secondary teachers will be offered.

CREATIVE ARTS IN THE SPECIAL NEEDS CLASSROOM

Young people with a disability often experience barriers to quality arts education and professional arts practice.

Sydney Opera House in partnership with Accessible Arts NSW, Department of Education & Communities, Australian Centre for Child and Youth: Culture and Wellbeing (UTS) and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia are offering an accredited arts education professional development day.

Discover how dance, music, theatre and visual arts can unlock your students’ learning in stimulating and enjoyable ways. For those seeking to refresh their creative arts skills, ‘Creative Arts in the Special Needs Classroom’ will offer primary and secondary teachers practical ways to incorporate the arts into their classroom practice.

Teachers will have the opportunity to discuss latest research, participate in creative arts workshops, learn about professional arts education programs and meet key leaders in the arts and disability network. Catering and information packs will be available. There will be options for regional and remote teachers to dial into Sydney Opera House and participate via video conferencing.

The program will take place at Sydney Opera House and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Program registration and details will be available on Monday 4 February. Join the  House:Ed mailing list to receive details.

INDIGENOUS LITERACY DAY LAUNCH 2013

Sydney Opera House partners again with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) in 2013 to host the launch of Indigenous Literacy Day 2013 on Wed 4th September.

Students at the launch take part in a Great Book Swap in the northern foyer of the Concert Hall. Pre-loved books are brought along by students and categorised by volunteers. For a gold coin donation, students can then choose a ‘new’ book to keep and enjoy.

For the chance for your school to be involved in Indigenous Literacy Day at Sydney Opera House, register early! See the ILF website for further details. www.indigenousliteracyfoundation.org.au
