OUR 2012 VISION
WELCOME TO HOUSE: ED 2012
I am delighted to present our 2012 House:Ed program which marks an exciting expansion of Sydney Opera House’s education offering.
Importantly, 2012 will see the House further extend our reach to young people across NSW and beyond through the establishment of our compelling digital education program. We will offer students and teachers a range of live behind the scenes digital tours of the House, streamed performances and interactive drama workshops.
In 2012, we will reach out to regional NSW via our groundbreaking program, The Open House Project, in partnership with the Glasshouse Port Macquarie. The program has a strong education component and will make available a performing arts program, workshops and digital excursions to students in the Mid North Coast region.
Chief Executive Officer
In 2012, our Education and Young People’s department has expanded in its structure, size
and program, to now offer arts and educational experiences not only onsite, but offsite and online.
Sydney Opera House is positioned to be a major player in the developments taking place
in Australian arts and education. Whether it is issues surrounding the National Curriculum, or the resurgence in discussions around a National Cultural Policy, our expansion signifies our commitment to adapting and changing how we deliver our program to you and your students.
House:Ed in 2012 brings you a range of larger scale works which display excellence in artistic practice, and link to a number of subject areas. Our program will present traditional and contemporary theatre, dance and music that is thought-provoking, highlights social and political issues, and creatively engages students with technology.
For our performances, we have sourced extraordinary artists with unique voices; through
our enquiry and discovery based learning opportunities, we aim to ensure deeper levels of student engagement in the work they see. The team and I are most excited that our productions offer a whole host of ways to maximise your students’ enjoyment and learning outcomes.
New initiatives such as The Open House Project and our digital education program, proves you don’t have to be at Bennelong Point any more to enjoy a Sydney Opera House experience. Whether you are in Kempsey, Marrickville or Brewarrina, Sydney Opera House can visit your classroom and be part of your teaching and learning program.
Thanks to the commitment of the Sydney Opera House Trust and Executive Management, we invite you and your students to join us in creative learning… onsite, offsite and online.
