TEACHING MUSIC IN THE PRIMARY CLASSROOM WITH SYDNEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Looking for innovative ways to teach music in your primary classroom, or unsure how best to do it? This professional development workshop for K-6 teachers is packed with material and strategies that will make presenting quality music lessons easy. Activities will be practical, simple to deliver and you will be provided with all the necessary resources to achieve this in your classroom.
Sydney Opera House and Sydney Symphony Orchestra join forces to bring this 2-hour
professional development session into your interactive classroom via video conferencing.
This is your chance to learn from the experts without having to leave your school grounds.

PLAYBUILDING WORKSHOP WITH SLINGSBY AND AUSTRALIAN THEATRE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE.
This full day workshop will give you a chance to explore contemporary playbuilding practices and learn effective and practical ways to apply them in your drama classroom.
The day begins with a session from director, Andy Packer, and composer, Quincy Grant, of award winning theatre company, Slingsby. Discover and experience first-hand Slingsby’s methods for creating contemporary theatre through practical exercises and discussions. Then join one of atyp’s experienced arts educators to discuss and dissect Slinsgby’s methods for use with students in the classroom. The day will end with a post-show refreshment and performance of Slingsby’s show Man Covets Bird in Sydney Opera House’s Studio, so you can see the work translated to the stage.

CREATIVE APPROACHES TO TEACHING INDIGENOUS PERSPECTIVES
Work with an Indigenous artist to explore methods and gain inspiration for approaching ‘Indigenous Perspectives’ in your classroom, through creative arts activities. The day will begin with a matinee performance of Honey Spot by Jack Davis in Sydney Opera House’s Studio.
This will be followed by an interactive forum/ discussion in which you will extract learnings from the play and discuss ways to address Indigenous contemporary culture in your classroom through fun and engaging activities. Learn new creative ideas and methods for immersing your students in this topic.

MEET THE MUSIC PROFESSIONAL LEARNING WORKSHOP WITH SYDNEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Presented live on stage in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, this professional learning workshop will focus on the Australian repertoire contained in the 2012 SSO Meet the Music series.
Australian composers Matthew Hindson, Barry Conyngham and Peter Sculthorpe will discuss their music and the composition process as we examine the works in detail during the workshop.
