BABIES PROMS 30th BIRTHDAY
Babies Proms turns 30 this year!
This year over 70,000 children will enjoy the magic of live performance at Sydney Opera House.
A highlight of our Kids at the House program, Babies Proms presents shows created especially for children aged two to five, enriching young lives from the very beginning. Lah-Lah’s Adventures, Music for Tutus, Charlie and Lola, Little Big Shots, The Four Seasons and Music Book – these are just some of the performances that have inspired imagination and brought joy to thousands of children since its inception in 1981.
We invite you to help us celebrate the last 30 years by supporting our birthday campaign and making a donation to our fundraising appeal. We remain as committed as ever to creating, producing and presenting award-winning work across all art forms for Kids at the House. Help us achieve this - every gift makes a difference.
"I wonder if Richard Gill was aware when he first conducted a Babies Proms concert at Sydney Opera House that music would be still an integral part of the program 30 years later? Would he have imagined in 2011 a generational following to this celebrated program where grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren discovered the wonder of performing arts together?
For over 30 years Babies Proms has introduced children to the exciting and stimulating world of the performing arts in one of the world’s most famous performing arts centres.
Sydney Opera House remains committed to providing a diverse musical program with high production values by ensuring with the very best professional artists are accessible to children in a fun, interactive and intimate learning environment.
This program is the first entry point for young audiences aged 2 years onwards to explore the performing arts in a meaningful way. With tens of thousands of young people and their families attending in 2010, I am excited by what will develop in the next 30 years and how many young people in our community will have experienced their first taste of music, dance and theatre here at the House."

"Children need to go to the theatre as much as they need to run about in the fresh air. They need to hear music played by real musicians on real instruments as much as they need food and drink. They need to read and listen to proper stories as much as they need to be loved and cared for.”

BIRTHDAY CARD COMPETITION
Where does your imagination take you?
We asked your children and grandchildren to help us celebrate the 30th birthday of Babies Proms by sending us a birthday card - drawn especially by them!
Congratulations to 5 year old Kiana Wilson from Roseville – the winner of our Babies Proms 30th birthday card competition!
Our Babies Proms programming aims to bring joy and inspire imagination in all children; enriching young lives from the very beginning. Our special guest judge Louise Olsen, Co-founding Creative Director of Dinosaur Designs, thought Kiana truly captured the essence and excitement of seeing a performance at Sydney Opera House. She especially loved her attention to detail and use of colours, textures and imagination!
Thank you to all who entered our competition to help mark this special milestone – we had a really fantastic selection of entries and Louise commented on what a tough decision it was to choose just one winner.
Click here to view our gallery that includes images from the judging and some of our entries – including Kiana’s winning entry and several others that received a special commendation from Louise.
Thank you to all who took part in helping us celebrate this wonderful milestone and we look forward to seeing you at the next Babies Proms performance!
