ACCESS FOR DISADVANTAGED SCHOOLS
On Friday 10 June 2011, 20 music students from Canterbury Boys’ High School were invited by Sydney Opera House to take part in a unique workshop with Hypnotic Brass Ensemble.
The students were given the opportunity to see the band perform in the intimate settings of a rehearsal room, and then invited to anticipate in a fascinating Q&A session. Several of the students were also invited by the band to give a brief performance. The students then had a complimentary lunch in the Greenroom, followed by a tour of the House.
All the students had a fantastic time, and were really inspired to hear how the group came into being - against the odds of a tough background in Chicago - all of which resonated hugely with them.
The cost of this experience to Sydney Opera House was $45 per student. With further support we hope to further develop initiatives such as this, providing young Australians with a unique and inspiring experience that they otherwise may not have had.
