Australian Haydn Ensemble – ‘The Prussian Prince’ – Featuring Soloist Melissa Farrow (Classical Flute)

Description

Pinchgut Opera's Erin Helyard joins the ensemble, performing as a small chamber orchestra for a program of early classical string sinfonia's and concertos inspired by court of Frederick the Great.

Aggressive military leader by day, devoted amateur musician by night, the Prussian King Frederick the Great’s first love was music. He was a talented flautist and composer, and his court in Berlin employed some of the greatest composers of the age. Foremost among them was Carl Phillip Emmanuel Bach, more famous in the 18th century than his father J S Bach, and this program features two of his works including one of his innovative harpsichord concertos, played by Erin Helyard. Melissa Farrow, principal flute with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, will perform a dark and exciting E minor flute concerto by the violin virtuoso Franz Benda, and the Ensemble will play one of Frederick’s own compositions, a lively Sinfonia.
