The Australia Piano Quartet (AQ) will showcase a series of three intimate performances in the Utzon Room at Sydney Opera House on 1 May, 31 July & 2 December - the perfect acoustic setting for chamber music.

Following a successful 2013 season, Thomas Rann and James Wannan welcome violinist Rebecca Chan and pianist Evgeny Ukhanov as members of the ensemble.

Violist James Wannan is a founding member of the Australia Piano Quartet and co-Artistic Director. As a soloist James has played with orchestras including the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra has been invited to perform as guest principal viola with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

Fellow co-Artistic Director, cellist Thomas Rann has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at many international venues including the Wigmore Hall, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Westminster Abbey, St. James' Palace, Tonhalle Zurich and Victoria Hall, Geneva.

Pianist Evgeny Ukhanov began his studies when he was seven years old in the Ukraine and made his public performance debut at the age of nine. Evgeny has appeared as soloist with Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra and Sydney Youth Orchestra.

Melbourne born Rebecca Chan completed degrees in Medicine and Arts before her main musical studies at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) and the Sydney Conservatorium. Rebecca has been soloist with many of Australia's major orchestras, including the Melbourne, Tasmanian, Adelaide and Canberra Symphony Orchestras.

Over the last three years Australia Piano Quartet has toured nationally, including performances at Melbourne Recital Centre and Elder Hall Adelaide, established a series at Sydney's Independent Theatre, debuted at the Utzon Room, appeared annually on ABC Classic FM's Sunday Live, and created an innovative collaborative concert series as Ensemble in Residence at UTS. In 2014 the ensemble will also perform at the barbican Centre in London.

Australia Piano Quartet aims to become one of the few piano quartets to join the ranks of the world 's great chamber ensembles. The players' passion for  the piano quartet stems from their love of the extraordinary repertoire and the unique qualities of the ensemble itself: a synthesis of the finely blended sonority of a string trio, the soloistic qualities of each string voice and the orchestral power and virtuosic brilliance of the piano.
