Description
"You never know where his insatiable curiosity will take him." The Times UK on Wayne McGregor
“One of the most sought-after choreographers in the world” The New York Times on Alexei Ratmansky
A journey to the centre of modern ballet
From the UK, Spain and Russia, Concord gathers three of the most exciting choreographers working today to uncover the boundless invention and possibilities of dance.
Wayne McGregor from UK-based company Random Dance has collaborated with everyone from neuroscientists to indie rock band The White Stripes on bracingly modern ballets. His Dyad 1929, performed to Steve Reich’s Pulitzer Prize-winning score Double Sextet, will fuse design, music and sleek choreography into a perfect whole.
At just 35, Alexei Ratmansky became Artistic Director of the Bolshoi Ballet, where his daring revivals of long-lost classics put the company back at the forefront of dance. He’ll bring his deft comic touch to Scuola di ballo, a classical work set amid the high drama of a ballet studio.
Completing the bill is the return of Nacho Duato's much-loved Spanish work Por vos muero, a ballet Dance Australia called "totally absorbing, ravishingly beautiful" and "deeply affecting".
Concord is a coup: two world premiere works from arguably the world’s most in-demand choreographers, plus the welcome return to the Australian stage of a much-loved ballet.
