Deborah Voigt – An American Songbook
Deborah Voigt is widely acknowledged as the world’s preeminent dramatic soprano, possessed of a once-in-a-generation voice and a mesmerising stage presence.
Ms. Voigt, clearly in her prime, is astonishing. Her sound is at once earthen and gleaming…Simply glorious. The New York Times
Her latest triumph is a role debut as Brunnhilde in Wagner’s Siegfried and Gotterdammerung for New York’s Metropolitan Opera.
But this magnificent artist is not all about grand opera. She has another passion which she wants to share with you: Deborah Voigt loves to sing show tunes. She has sung with Barbara Cook and Dianne Reeves at the Hollywood Bowl, and given performances in Lincoln Center’s long-running “American Songbook” series. According to Variety magazine, “Voigt crosses the opera-Broadway boundary with grace and elegance, harbouring a strength reserved for special moments. She is also in the possession of a devilish sense of humour, which was delightfully used to frame a lyric with a naughty smile.”
For her one Sydney concert she will be performing a collection of Broadway tunes and popular standards by the likes of Stephen Sondheim, Kurt Weill, Cole Porter and Oscar Hammerstein. Fond and funny, subtle and sassy, brave and beautiful, these songs have found their perfect match in an artist who puts heart and soul into every performance.
Don’t miss the chance to meet one of the great divas of our time, singing the songs she just adores.
Deborah Voigt will perform a selection of American songs by STEPHEN SONDHEIM, OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II, COLE PORTER, NOËL COWARD and more.
