Bartók, Mozart and Dvořák: hear three great composers at their most melodic and serene. Led by Antonello Manacorda.

Description

Dvořák’s Eighth Symphony is an adventure that strolls through the Bohemian countryside, with flowing melodies and jaunty rhythms that suggest the sights and sounds of Dvořák’s native land. Plus a Mozart piano concerto that’s ‘warm, broad and big-hearted’, overflowing with rich melodies and breathtaking moments.

Dvořák’s Eighth Symphony is an adventure that strolls through the Bohemian countryside, with flowing melodies and jaunty rhythms that suggest the sights and sounds of Dvořák’s native land. How lucky we are to have Mozart, says pianist Jonathan Biss. On his second visit to Sydney he’s chosen a Mozart concerto that’s ‘warm, broad and big-hearted’, overflowing with rich melodies and breathtaking moments.

Bartók follows in the tradition of Mozart with a classically inspired serenade written in the serene context of the Swiss mountains. Easily his most accessible music, the Divertimento for strings has an elegant and dance-like character, even when the mood turns sombre.

Dvořák’s Eighth Symphony was also composed in idyllic surroundings. This is an adventure that strolls through the Bohemian countryside, and the music tied together with flowing melodies and jaunty rhythms suggests the sights and sounds of Dvořák’s native land.
