27 June 2014 – 04 July 2014

Venue: Utzon Room
Presented by: Interactive Theatre International

Highly improvised interactive comedy theatre featuring Basil, Sybil, Manuel and a 3-course meal in an internationally acclaimed, pitch perfect tribute to TV's Fawlty Towers.

Description

Basil, Sybil and Manuel return after a sell-out debut here last year. With a 3-course meal and a good dollop of mayhem, this 'hilarious battle of wits, patience, fire extinguishers and fine food' (Australian Traveller) comes to you during another world tour, fresh from the UK's Royal Albert Hall.

The show starts as the audience wait to be seated and then hurtles along in a tour de force of fully immersive, highly improvised and site-specific comedy theatre. With only a third of the show scripted, anything can happen and everything stays fresh as these three infamous hoteliers perform with the audience - and as the audience play the part of diners in the 'Fawlty Towers' restaurant. Do expect all the best gags and 'a rip-roaringly hilarious night out' ( This Is London )… just don't mention the war!

Faulty Towers The Dining Experience is an affectionate homage to Fawlty Towers, that most revered of TV series by the BBC. The original scripts by John Cleese and Connie Booth are not used in the show, and the sometimes-supposed mis-spelling of the show's name is, in fact, on purpose. Artistic director Alison Pollard-Mansergh explains: 'When we started this show in 1997, John Cleese, Prunella Scales and Andrew Sachs were still young enough to perform these roles. I didn't want people to think they were getting the original, so I spelled the name of our show differently. Happily though, both they and the BBC know what we are doing, and we work with the BBC a lot.'

Seventeen years on since it started in Brisbane, Faulty Towers The Dining Experience is now performed around the world by eight teams of cast, pretty much constantly. At the same time, it maintains a residency in the heart of London's West End theatre land.

' Manuel (Anthony Sottile) is brilliant  (Australian Stage, FringeWorld Perth).

'Jordan Edmeades is faultless'  (FringeReview, Edinburgh Fringe).

' Alison Pollard-Mansergh's Sybil… faultless and priceless'  (The Daily Telegraph, UK)

He graduated from Sydney Theatre School in 2009, joining ITI in 2010.
