“Romeo and Juliet is a blast for teenagers and adults alike… entertaining, loud, energetic and colourful.” Sun Herald
Playing to over 16,500 students in 2011, Bell Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is a fast-paced, visually vibrant production with a distinctly Australian flavour. Set amongst the red dirt of the land, Verona is a small, isolated, drought-ridden community, where the young ‘star-cross’d lovers’ will be torn apart by an old family feud.
Lovesick teenagers. Strict parents. Rebellion. No wonder students connect so well with Shakespeare’s tragic teens. Romeo falls for Juliet. Juliet swoons for Romeo. It’s a classic boy meets girl, boy loses girl love story.
For now, these hot days, is the mad blood stirring...
Directed by Damien Ryan, this production stars Bell Shakespeare's new troupe of players.
